ORANGE BEACH, AL | June 22, 2021 – Community Senior Life announces Landon (Lannie) Smith as the Director of Corporate Construction & Maintenance.

“Trying to replace a management team employee with 41-years’ experience is an impossible task. In fact, it cannot be done,” stated Doug Warren, CEO. “What can be done and what we did, however, was to find an individual with the same aptitude, attitude, and abilities and welcome him into the organization. Lannie Smith had been a winner in every job he has held; he is a winning hire for CHS.”

Smith joins Community Senior Life from the City of Orange Beach, where he served from September 2000 as Chief Building Official, Floodplain Administrator, and Emergency Management Director. Smith is a seasoned Code Official and planning professional having twenty years of experience in municipal code administration, and enforcement with multiple jurisdictions. Smith also served on the Orange Beach Planning Commission. Before his service with the City of Orange Beach, Smith served as the Director of Building and Planning for the City of Greenville, Alabama.

Smith has served on many state and national boards and committees, some of which include President of the Alabama Association of Floodplain Managers, two-term President of the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter of the International Code Council, and a two-term member of the Board of Directors for the Code Officials Association of Alabama. He also served as Chairman of the Building Code Committee for Smart Home America, Inc., advising the Board on building code and NFIP related issues, and served as the Chairman of the Baldwin County, Alabama Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee.

Smith was recognized in 2008 by the Code Officials Association of Alabama (COAA) as Code Official of the Year for the state of Alabama. In 2013, he received the Larry R. Johnston Memorial Award from the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), recognizing the National Local Floodplain Manager of the Year. In 2015, he was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley to represent the International Code Council on the Alabama Energy and Residential Codes Board.

Smith received his Bachelor of Science degree in Administration from Troy University and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
